Design in ia Socio-Cultural Context course, introduced me to the approach of working and engaging with a site, and using it as a foundation of the project. Kranen in Swedish means crane and the typeface was inspired by the shape of Eriksberg’s gantry crane in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a recognisable shape in Gothenburg’s skyline and it brings the people of Gothenburg great pride of city’s shipbuilding history. The typeface initially consists of two weights, but it can be adapted in various ways.

Kranen Slender imitates the height of the crane , while Kranen Chunky sources from the shapes of crane’s heavy railing on the ground.
