BODY TYPE
MASTER THESIS
The project Body Type came together as a response to today’s social issues that I recognized as harmful to the ever-growing media audience. Today’s perceptions of social and personal ideals are shaped by so-called influencers, lay opinion makers, who design, set and communicate social and personal norms that are supposed to be followed. Social media has become a weapon and a tool for the spread of these ideas and standards. The standard that says »only ideal is good enough and acceptable« has become the motto of young people who aspire to imitate body and face ideals and an ideal lifestyle.
My project opposes the absurdity of these social deviations and the race for ideals and, as such, tries to communicate a more acceptable social paradigm
based on the principle that even imperfect or different, perhaps unusual according to established norms, can still be beautiful.
Transforming Helvetica, one of the most "beautiful" standard fonts used in graphic design, through the prism of such social deviations into the "Body Type" family was a unique creative challenge. The task of the Body type project is to hold a mirror to unreasonable social deviations, phenomena and standards, and personal traumas as a result of this and to communicate the thesis through applications: »Imperfections give life dynamism and diversity.«
